How to write sick day email
If you feel bad or are hit by an unplanned tough spot, telling your boss you can’t work is key. Writing a note to say you’re sick may look easy, but you need to get the tone right and give the right info. Here is a full plan for how to write a note when you are sick in a good way.
The thing you write first tells your boss what your note is about. Keep it easy. A clear “Sick Day: [Your Name]” or “Can’t Make It Today: [Your Name]” makes sure your boss sees and gets your note fast.
Start your note with a nice way to say hi. Talk to your boss or the right person well, using their job title if you should. “Dear [Boss’s Name]” or “Hello [Person in Charge’s Name]” are good ways to start that keep it work-like.
In the start of your note, talk short about why you are off. If you feel sick, have a health problem, or are in a family tight spot, be true. Tell them enough to show it’s a big thing but don’t share too much.
After you say why you are off, tell your boss you still care about your work. Say if you can do some work while you are gone. Let them know you’ll keep in touch and take care of what needs to be done from afar if you can.
Say sorry for any trouble your not being there may cause. Know that this may mix up the work or miss times set for things. Showing you get it and care shows you are a good worker and you think about your team’s work and time.
Put in your note how to reach you while you are out. Give your phone number or a way to talk, to make sure they can get to you for urgent stuff or news.
Your job may ask for a paper, like a note from a doctor if you are off for a long time or for some reasons. If they need it, say you’ll give the right papers when you come back. But if you’ll only be out for a little bit and doled need that kind of thing, don’t say this.
End your note in a good way. “Thanks for understanding” or “Best wishes” and then your name are good ways to wrap up. Stay work-like, even at the end.
Here’s a short note when you’re sick:
First line: Sick Day: [Your Name]
Dear [Boss’s Name],
I hope you’re good. Sadly, I need to say I’m not good today and can’t be there to work. I have [a little bit about how you feel] and think I should stay at home to get better.
Even though I won’t be there, I will check my email and phone all day to help with anything big or give news about my work. Call or write if you need to talk to me or need help.
I’m sorry for any mix-up my being away brings and thank you for your understanding.
Thanks for looking at this.
Best wishes,
[Your Name]
Writing a good note when you’re sick is something all workers need to know. By using these steps and keeping a respectful and work-like tone, you can tell your boss you won’t be in while still showing you are true to your job.
